Europe Trip 2014
In February of 2014, Pine Forge Academy will be taking its third journey to Europe as the highlight trip for the English and History departments. This trip will feature the cities of London, Paris, Florence, and Rome. The students will have the opportunity to return to their cultural and linguistic roots (London), while experiencing the flavor, art, and history of Paris, Florence, and Rome.
The Western world has been deeply impacted by French and Italian works of art. Besides the city itself and its iconic Eiffel Tower and Cathedral of Notre Dame, the Louvre Museum in Paris houses what is probably the greatest collection of art in the world, including the Venus de Milo, the Winged Victory of Samothrace, the wall-size painting of the coronation of Napoleon by David, topped off by the portrait of the lady herself, da Vinci’s La Gioconda, known in the English speaking world as the Mona Lisa. In Florence are to be found works by Botticelli, Fra Angelico, Donatelli, and Ghiberti, in addition to Michelangelo’s masterpiece, David.
Also, the students will get to see for themselves the city of Rome, from which hails the very basis of western culture, law, language, and even religion. The Trevi Fountain, the Sistine Chapel, along with Vatican City and St. Peter’s Basilica are located there. This will provide a firsthand look at the city, which has had—and continues to have—perhaps the greatest influence on life and religion on our planet today.
It is our hope and desire that our students will be greatly enriched and enlightened by this travel experience, and that they might receive a much broader vision of their own place in this world, and what they may be able to do to prosper the work of God on this earth.
