Handy Hall ‘Young Bucs’ Magnificent Weekend
Written By Vanessa Wilson
Friday, February 5-7, 2016, marked the fourth consecutive year of Handy Hall & Friends Weekend, a traditional legacy which began to showcase the talent and leadership abilities of its occupants. Mr. & Mrs. Pottinger, Ms. Poole and many others have taken the reigns of planning for this auspicious event and it seemingly has only grown more effective under their guidance.Residents received guests during an Open House Meet ‘N Greet Reception in the Robert L. Handy Recreation Center to kick-off the weekend festivities.
Friday evening vespers at the Pine Forge Church began at 7:00 P.M. heralding the theme Unchanging God, Unchanging Love. The ardent Patrick Graham, AEC Youth & Children’s Ministries Director and Pastor of Sharon SDA Church in Baltimore, Maryland served as Master of Ceremony. The power of the Holy Spirit was not only present but active as breath-taking musical anthems were rendered by an array of vocalists namely: Preston Winkfield, Asher Waite, Tyler McKinney, Michael Gilmore, and Grammy Nominated Group member, Theron Thomas from Committed.
Dale Brown & Truth raised the rooftop off of the still-standing edifice with their resounding praises and testimonies. The worshipful service was an atmosphere that the Pine Forge Community is accustomed to. In other words, when the spirit falls, we praise harder and louder with holy hands lifted in exaltation to the Heavenly host.
This worship experience concluded with an anointing prayer vigil by clergymen Melvyn Hayden, Mario Broussard, Frank Legette, Patrick Graham, and a host of ordained elders praying on behalf of attendees seeking the manifestations of God’s divine power in their lives.
The brisk morning of February 6, the gospel celebrations from the evening before remained within the aisles and pews. Sabbath School brought many pleasantries from the opening prayer, special music, to the interactive lesson study so eloquently presented by Dr. George Thornton Sr.
The Divine Worship experience in and of itself was ELECTRIC to say the least. Mario Broussard, Senior Pastor of Restoration Praise Center in Maryland, delivered a riveting Second Coming message and an irresistible, plausible appeal urging saints to make their calling and election sure as foretold in 2 Peter.
As the song writer pens the words Great and marvelous are thy works. Oh Lord God Almighty! Just and true are Thy ways. Nations shall come and worship Him. The enemy thwarted attempt to distract was unsuccessful; the failed scheme allowed freshmen Mattox triplets to go down into the watery grave as sinners and resurrect as baptized, blood-washed believers. This majestic service led others to the divine will to get inside the ark of safety.
But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is long-suffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. ~ 2 Peter 3:8-9
Deans Pottinger, Jones, and Johnson are to be commended for the impeccable work they are doing with the raising and developing of the young men in Handy Hall.
