Paul R. Jones Student Center
In 1958, Paul R. Jones, newly graduated from Oakwood College, arrived at Pine Forge Academy as a math teacher. He remained at the Academy – as a teacher and so very much more. Mr. Jones was the epitome of a dedicated, patient, and kind teacher. He would work one on one with students until they grasped the fundamentals of algebra and geometry. He treated all students with love and kindness. While serving as a full time educator, he also served as Class Sponsor, Vice Principal, Basketball Coach, School Garden Farmer (Corn, Tomato, Squash) and for a brief period, even as principal.
After Mr. Jones passed, the alumni considered ways to honor Mr. Jones. A student center seemed most appropriate and fitting. His students became teachers, medical doctors, corporate lawyers and executives. He was genuinely loved by all – students, parents, faculty and community members. Mr. Jones and his wife, Vivian, lived in Pine Forge for four decades and raised their three children on PFA’s hallowed grounds. Simply stated, Mr. Jones dedicated his life to PFA.
The Pine Forge Academy Foundation, with assistance from the National Pine Forge Academy Alumni Association and Pine Forge Academy, is committed and will lead the way forward to raising the estimated $3.5 million needed to construct the Paul R. Jones Student and STEAM Center. The building is named in honor of our beloved Pine Forge Academy mathematician, teacher, and coach.
The PRJ building will house a Student Lounge, Cafeteria, Music and Performance spaces, work program offices, and the STEAM classrooms. A major matching funds donor has been secured who will match donations up to $250,000 until December 31, 2018. All donations and the matching gift will be designated for the construction of the Paul R. Jones Student Center.
