A Weekend Honoring “The King”
Written by Vanessa Wilson
Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday celebrates the life and legacy of a man who brought hope and healing to America. We commemorate as well the timeless values he taught us through his examples: courage, justice, integrity, empathy, sympathy, self-respect, unpretentiousness and service that so vividly defined Dr. King’s character and remarkable leadership.
At Pine Forge Academy, it is customary for students and faculty alike to participate in service and community projects locally and within the Delaware Valley. Thusly, on this holiday, we commemorate the universal, unconditional love, forgiveness and nonviolence foresight Dr. King envisioned for a multi-racial nation. Dr. King, a champion of equality and racial justice in his own rite braved the unimaginable, making democracy a reality for all people.
Each year during King’s holiday, people set aside their differences to celebrate and honor the tolerance of ethnic diversities, unifying us as “ONE” kindred, tongue and people. The mission of Pine Forge Academy joins forces with this GREAT nation in further celebrating the legacy and the tenets set forth by Dr. King and his life examples of servant leadership. As such, servant leadership is a fraction of the workings the choir, spiritual life department, basketball teams, and Creative Arts chose to engage in.
While we continue to trod in the footsteps of Dr. King let us vow to serve humanity, uphold what he stood for, and forever sustain his legacy for eternity.
“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?'”
-Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
