A native of Arroyo, Puerto Rico, but spent the majority of his life living in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Ramón will be serving as the Managing Director of Food Services. He comes with 27 years of experience in the hotel and restaurant food service industry.
Prior to coming to Pine Forge Academy, Ramón served in multiple kitchen positions including: pantry chef, line cook, banquet chef, sous chef, and executive chef. In addition, he has served in the following capacities: personal caterer for Governor -Jack Markell’s – (DE) 2009 victory celebration, Basciani Family mushroom company, preferred chef for PFA & AEC special events, Fitness Camp consultant, and kitchen supervisor for the Haitian Camp Meeting.
He is also the 3-time winner of the Kennett Square (PA) Mushroom Festival and has had his mushroom soup featured and sold at the PA State Farm Show by (Buona Mushrooms Family).
In 1993, Ramón joined the AEC team, at Pine Forge Academy, with the help and guidance of Pastor Patrick O’Mara and the late Mrs. Debbie Boise (nutritionist in charge of food services for PFA). Mrs. Boise requested his presence and service for the Elders’ Retreat Weekend – this would serve as his performance review to determine his capabilities for the upcoming Camp Meeting. He successfully completed the weekend, by overseeing the kitchen for all meals (that’s over 1,500 plates prepared from scratch and served!). He was then invited to return, as a cook, under the direct mentorship of the late and beloved Ms. Thomas. After her passing, Ramón was given the opportunity to assume the position of Director of Food Services, which included: cooking, serving, ordering food and kitchen items, creating menus, and supervising kitchen staff.
On May 9, 2017, Ramón joined the PFA team with the goals of teaching the students about the culinary arts and educating them about the nutritional options, expanding the variety of vegetarian and vegan offerings.
